The study of the world’s interconnectedness across borders, societies, and cultures. Global affairs focuses on the political, economic, social, and environmental processes that shape the contemporary world. Core courses provide a foundation of knowledge about these processes, while students can choose from a range of thematic and regional concentrations. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of study abroad and internship opportunities, which will allow them to apply their academic training to a real-world problem.
With a globalized economy and a new generation of leaders, now is the time to understand the forces that are reshaping our world. This interdisciplinary major will give you the skills to confront and contribute to the resolution of global challenges.
Admission to the major is limited and competitive. The application deadline is the fall of the sophomore year. Prospective majors should enroll in introductory economics, political science and history courses as early as possible and begin working toward their L4 language requirement. A Cr (credit) grade in a modern language is acceptable as meeting the L4 requirement. Outside credit is permitted, but only if it can be counted as a required or elective course. A maximum of one summer term or two terms of study abroad may count as a course toward the major with DUS approval.
