Mount Merapi, located on the island of Java, Indonesia, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Eruptive activity that occurs periodically has a broad impact on the environment and surrounding communities. Understanding the effects of these eruptions is critical for risk mitigation and ecosystem protection. When Mount Merapi erupted, the scale of the environmental impact was significant. Volcanic ash pollutes the air and soil, affecting the quality of crops and the health of livestock. This effort aims to reduce the risks and impacts caused when Merapi erupts again. The ecosystem around Mount Merapi is also experiencing dynamic changes. After an eruption, some areas can experience rapid vegetation regeneration, but not all of them are virtual. Certain types of plants may not be able to grow back in polluted soil, so long-term impacts on biodiversity must be considered. The flora and fauna on the slopes of Merapi pose a serious threat if not managed properly. Biodiversity can encourage research on the adaptation of species to frequently changing environments. If environmental rehabilitation measures are carried out correctly, the ecosystem can potentially recover and function optimally. By understanding and addressing the impact of the Mount Merapi eruption, local communities can be better prepared to face future threats, and the government can design more responsive policies. Apart from that, education and community participation are the keys to success in mitigating the impact of this volcanic eruption.
