Tsunami Rocks Indonesian Coast: Impact and Recovery

In addition, infrastructure reconstruction must be carried out taking into account the principles of disaster resilience. The use of stronger building materials and designs that can withstand high waves is highly recommended. Governments and non-governmental organizations also play an important role in the recovery process. Food assistance, clean water and health services are urgently needed during the initial phase. Economic rehabilitation programs, such as skills training and providing business capital, help communities to become independent again after a disaster. Education related to disaster mitigation must be a priority. Communities need to be trained to recognize the early signs of a tsunami and how to evacuate safely. In addition, the early warning system needs to be strengthened. Modern technology must be utilized to provide fast and accurate information via sirens and SMS messages. Preparedness also involves a strong social fabric. Communities must unite to support each other in facing the tsunami threat. Local discussion forums need to be formed to increase awareness and knowledge about disasters. Coastal areas also require sustainable environmental management. Planting mangrove forests and restoring coral reefs can serve as a natural barrier to tsunami waves. Ecosystem sustainability will help protect existing settlements. In a long-term context, recovery programs must pay attention to spatial planning. Reconfiguring settlements further from the coastline could reduce future risks. Apart from that, international cooperation in tsunami research and developing disaster prevention technology is a crucial step. Through collaboration between government, society and international organizations, recovery from the tsunami in Indonesia can be carried out more effectively. With these steps, it is hoped that the Indonesian people will be better prepared and resilient in facing tsunamis in the future.
