It is a distinct genre within journalism, and often considered to be a subfield of foreign news. The term is usually applied to newspapers and other print media, but it can also include television and radio broadcasts. The bulk of the work done by major news agencies is world news, and they generally supply this material to other organizations, such as local newspapers, for a fee.
